Bought a house, selling ours, but the house we bought?

The people may not get the house they were going to move to. So can they back out of selling theirs? we have had an offer on ours but have not taken it But our offer on theirs was accepted, and it was not contingent on us selling ours, or them getting the house they want, so What then? can we legally hold them to selling theirs?
