Can't connect to the internet using hp mini windows 7?

ok so my little sister has a mini hp she got for christmas last year and she was careless and got a virus before i could get on her laptop to download an anti-virus. well i removed the virus and she now has anti-virus on it. when i removed the virus i was working in safe mode without networking. now when i get on the laptop at the bottom the connection is shown as full and when hovered it shows our router name and beneath in italics it says internet access. when i go on the internet (explorer) it says internet explorer cannot display the webpage. i click diagnose connection problem and windows network diagnostics window pops up and says trouble shooting has successfully completed. Problems found: the remote device or resource won't accept the connection. Detected /!\ and thats as far as i can get i need some help
